We recently updated the VT state job application on the Job Application Smart App due to a compliance change. Your Vermont Job Application has been updated to meet this new law, and the salary history question has been removed from your job application.
On Friday, May 11, Vermont Governor Phil Scott signed into law, a bill prohibiting employers from asking job applicants about salary history. Vermont now becomes the 5th state to adopt the salary history ban, joining California, Delaware, Massachusetts, and Oregon. The law is intended to break the “pay gap cycle” that prevents those employees who have suffered from lower wages through discrimination.
This new law will thwart employers from hiring equally skilled or experienced employees at different rates simply because one was paid more in a previous job.
However, in order to make sure you are in full compliance, all current paper job applications should be discarded, and new, updated versions printed from the Resources tab in the app.
