We recently updated the MA state job application on the Job Application Smart App due to a compliance change. Your Massachusetts Job Application has been updated to meet this new law, and the salary history question has been removed from your job application.
On August 1, 2016, Massachusetts' governor signed an equal pay bill into law, joining the growing list of states adopting salary history bans. The law is set to ensure equal pay for comparable work for all Massachusetts workers and equal opportunities to earn competitive salaries in the workplace.
As of July 1, 2018, the new law prevents discrimination for comparable work based on gender. The bill allows employees to freely discuss their salaries with coworkers and prohibits employers from requiring applicants to provide their salary history before receiving a formal job offer.
However, to make sure you are in full compliance, all current paper job applications should be discarded, and new, updated versions printed from the Resources tab in the app.
