We recently updated the WA state job application on the Job Application Smart App due to a compliance change. On March 13, 2018, Washington governor signed into law the Fair Chance Act, joining the growing list of states adopting criminal history bans. Washington has now become the 11th state, as well as the first in 2018 to ban the inquiry of criminal histories of applicants on their job application.
This new law requires both public and private businesses to delay the inquiry of any criminal histories about job applicants’ conviction records until the applicant has been afforded an opportunity to reveal their qualifications for the job in which they are applying.
As stated above, the application has been updated in our system, however, we also want to remind you that in order to make sure you are in full compliance, all current paper job applications should be discarded, and new, updated versions printed from the Resources tab in the app.
